Mother’s Day is next week and I wanted to do a post to show some love to all the moms out there! Put these cookies into a cute bag or box, tie it up with a ribbon and you’ve got yourself the perfect treat to give out to all the special moms in your life. Scroll to the bottom of the post to download the free printables for this Mother’s Day design!

Cookie Recipe:
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. baking powder
4 1/2- 5 cups flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream softened butter and sugar together. Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Mix the dry ingredients together then add to wet mixture. Mix until combined then chill for 1 hour. Cut your cookies out using your favorite cookie cutter. I used a 3 1/2 inch heart cookie cutter. If you are making small cookies, bake them for 5 minutes. If you are making large cookies, bake for 7 minutes. Or until you can see that they are cooked throughout and the edges are slightly browned.

Royal Icing:
1 pound of powdered sugar
5 Tbs. meringue powder
1/2 cup water
4 drops lemon extract

Mix on low speed until smooth and creamy for about 7 to 10 minutes. If icing is too thick, add more water. If too thin, beat for 2 to 3 minutes more. Create a design that you want on your cookie. Take your design to your local bakery and ask them if they can print it out on edible wafer paper. The paper is a little bit expensive, about 6 dollars each. I was able to get 8 of my designs on one sheet, so it ended up being affordable. After your cookies have baked let them cool so that the icing sets up on the cookie. Pipe a thin layer of icing onto your cooled cookie and let the royal icing dry for 1-2 hours or overnight.

Cut out your wafer paper design. Using corn syrup, brush a thin layer onto the cookie then place the design on top and lightly press it down.

Do the same process to the rest of the cookies! Aren’t they just the cutest! I did another post that was similar to this where I did a monogram for a bridal shower! Check it out HERE! The possibilities are endless with this technique!

Tell Me What You Think...

I saw you today on TV you look great thank you for the heads up on the cookies I appreciate it

    1. Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  2. Karen Major says:

Could you please elaborate on where I can go to have these printed, and the exact process?

    1. Take the file on a thumb drive or email it to the bakery (you can call them and ask them what email to send it to). I printed mine at the Harmon’s Grocery Store bakery but have also gotten it done at Maceys. I think a lot of grocery store bakeries will be able to do it. Tell them you want the image printed on the edible cake decorating paper.

  3. Dawn Douglas says:

Hi… I’m helping with a wedding shower in a few weeks …IN MICHIGAN… and I loved the ones you had one the show of the initials. This would be such a cool contribution on my part… can I pay for a specific lettered design??

  4. Shelly Walters says:

I love this idea. Sugar cookies are my favorite and I see so many possiblities with this. Thank you so much for sharing your creative talents.
